Teemu Pukki gives Norwich three points as Nahki Well’s penalty miss proves crucial for Bristol City as their poor Championship form continues

Norwich continued their impressive start to the season with three first half goals proving enough to beat Bristol City after Nahki Well’s penalty miss.

Goals from Teemu Pukki and Emiliano Beundia ensured that Daniel Farke’s men continued their unbeaten run having not lost in five Championship fixtures.

Jack Hunt kickstarted the Robin’s comeback but a penalty miss from Bermudian international Nahki Wells tarnished any possibility of the points being shared.

Bristol City were unable to break their winless streak having last won on Saturday, October 3 when they faced Nottingham Forest before the October international break.

Highlights from Sky Sports’ coverage

Pukki first scored after six minutes after Marco Stiepermann played a through ball through the Red’s backline and the striker finished calmly past Bentley.

He then doubled his personal tally after a long ball from Jacob Sorensen found Pukki and his shot deflected of the leg of Tomas Kalas to wrongfoot Bentley only 14 minutes in.

Hunt then gave Dean Holden’s man some hope only a minute later as he slotted past Tim Krul in City’s first genuine attack of the first period.

Chris Martin then had a penalty appeal rejected by referee Jarred Gillet as the ball appeared to bounce onto the hand of Grant Hanley in what would’ve been a harsh penalty.

Krul then made an impressive save to deny Martin’s header from a Paterson corner as the Dutch stopper clawed the ball out for low into the bottom corner.

Buendia then restored the Canaries’ two goal lead latching onto Ben Gibson’s long ball with Kalas unable to intercept the pass as he slipped his strike into the bottom left corner on the stroke of half-time.

“It wasn’t like us, we were very open. The opportunities that they got for their goals were too easy from our point of view.”

The Robins started the second half a lot brighter than the first with Martin once again being denied by Krul’s heroics as his 25-yard strike was turned onto the post by the slightest touch.

City continued piling on the pressure culminating in captain Kalas being brought down by makeshift left-back Jacob Sorenson in the area gifting the home side a penalty.

Wells who converted from 12 yards against Swansea misjudged a Panenka that sailed over Krul’s bar in what was his sixth penalty miss of the last nine he has taken.

He was quickly substituted after but even the introduction of both Antoine Semenyo and Famara Diedhiou didn’t gift City the opportunity to claw back into the game.

City’s loss means they slip into tenth in the Championship Table as they next travel to the John Smith’s Stadium to face Huddersfield Town on November 3.

Norwich climb to fourth in the league as they prepare to welcome Millwall to Carrow Road in their attempt to bounce straight back into the Premier League.
